Rotary Dampers
Improves perceived quality by controlling speed

Rotary dampers are machine elements, almost invisible, but essential to allow a controlled deceleration of rotary or linear movements. They protect sensitive components, while increasing the quality and value of products. The easy-to-integrate rotary speed controllers allow precise opening and closing of small lids, compartments and drawers with continuous rotation or with limited pivot angles. They slow down left, right or double sided rotations. These little dampers are suitable for almost any application and are also available in adjustable variations.
They offer braking torques of 0.001 Nm to 40 Nm and diameter sizes from 10 mm to 150 mm.
The design variations include:
- Rotary dampers
- Swing dampers
- Self-adjusting swing dampers
- Hinge dampers
- Friction dampers
- Disc dampers
- Reverse lock
Applications

Basic structure
Continuous rotation
Rotary dampers with continuous rotation are maintenance-free and ready to install components for reducing or controlling rotation speed. The damping direction can be clockwise, counter clockwise or in both directions. They can damp directly at the rotation point or linearly by means of a rack and pinion, in order to produce a smooth and even movement. The dampers with one-way rotation are also available with a built-in reverse lock clutch. The outer body is either of metal or of plastic.
Function
Rotary dampers with continuous rotation generate braking force against external rotating force by the viscous resistance of oil. The damping parameters are determined by the oil viscosity, the clearance between the rotor and main body and the surface area. The damping characteristic changes, according to the ambient temperature and the cycle rate. It increases when the cycle rate increases and it decreases when the cycle rate decreases. Rotary dampers with continuous rotation don’t generate any torque by themselves.

Partial rotation
Rotary dampers with partial rotation are maintenance-free and ready to install components for reducing or controlling rotating speed. The damping direction can be clockwise or counter clockwise. They can damp directly at the point of rotation or by means of a pinion. Rotary dampers with partial rotation are also available with adjustable braking force. The outer body is either of die-cast zinc or of plastic.
Function
Rotary dampers with partial rotation generate braking force against external rotating force by the viscous resistance of oil. The fluid is forced from one chamber into the other by the movement of the rotor. The damping parameters are determined by the oil viscosity and the dimensioning of the throttle gap or throttle orifices. The damping characteristic changes, according to the ambient temperature and the cycle rate. During the relevant return movement, a certain reduced reverse rotation damping is created, depending on the size. Rotary dampers with partial rotation don’t generate any torque by themselves.
